For the past few months, I have been working on a collaboration with AMA Girafe to create an Ikebana Adventure for French speaking primary school children, both internationally and here in Belgium.
Â
AMA Girafe is a not-for-profit organisation, linking French speaking schools across many African nations, France, and Belgium. The aim of the organistion is to unify children across cultures and break down socio-economic divides. AMA’s goal of empowering children through education, whilst encouraging them to develop a deeper affinity with nature, resonates with my own approach to children’s education.   Â
Â
Last week, AMA Girafe’s first Ikebana Adventure was launched to over 7 000 schools, across two continents. Through AMA Girafe the opportunity to engage with nature through ikebana is now available to children from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds. AMA Girafe enables these children to engage with one another, sharing their experiences, knowledge, and excitement as they explore the natural world around them. Â
Â
Empowering and unifying children from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds is a measure of the strength of Sofu Teshigahara’s adage that Sogetsu Ikebana can be studied by anyone, anywhere.
